Wats up guys!!
Just got back to Cape Town from a sick weekend in Benoni at the 1st Liquid Force pro tour stop.
I arrived in Johannesburg on Friday and then was lucky enough to catch a lift to the cable to ride with Nick Davies, Devon Nassif, Cameron graham, Tyler Scott and Ryan Durham
Nick is a machine.. he pretty much did everything that session from Pete rose 540’s to 9+180’s, it was crazy to watch him ride and play a game of PIG with him and Devon.. Which I must say I was pretty stoked with..
Anyways!
The comp kicked off on the Saturday morning, with supreme boats not supplying a boat pulling out as a sponsor at the last minute. Luckily the Durham Family were nice enough to let their boat be used in the contest which was a Mastercraft X-2. THANKS RIANA DURHAM!!!
Once a boat was found it was time to get the devisions underway with Open Wakeskate being first on the list followed by Novice, then Junior Men after which it was Open Ladies and then finally the Pro Men.
everyone had good qualifying rounds on the Saturday and were ready and amped for the Finals on Sunday.
Sunday was looking sick! With mirror water and very little rain for casted the Novices headed down to the dock for their runs. Tyler Scott had a sick run in the novice division sticking a toe 360 and having a good overall composition.
Next were the Wakeskaters where Matti Buys a local Benonian stuck a bunch of sick tricks including a front side bigspin and a Kickflip placing second and me just taking 1st with a backside w2w 180 and a 3 shuv.
The junior men followed with a decent display of inverts and spins coming from every rider in the division. Ryde Jones took in a third Place, sticking a massive s-bend for the first time to finish off his pass.(I got the footy) Next was Ryan Durham taking second with a sick stand up pass that included a massive front roll and tantrum! And placing first in the Junior Men division was Me! haha.. Taking advantage of all three of the allowed falls (including the extra obstacle fall). haha, and sticking a roll to blind and whirlybird as the hammers in my pass.
After that, Ladies were next up with Gina Faccio raking in the first place landing a bunch of inverts in her pass! Sadly her main competition Deidre Van Niekerk had chicken pox unluckily for a second time in her life and was advised not to compete.
After that it was time for the Grand finale, Pro Men, where the competition was tough and rough and where the top 5 spots made it hard for the judges. In fact, Devon James Nassif who competed with his trade mark intensity and Jono Joseph who had a consistent stylish and well composed run, both tied in 4th place. After which Clayton Krause who had had troubles with his large toe a week earlier came 3rd sticking a Whirlybird, a Moby Dick, a Dum Dum and a KGB in his pass. Second was Shaun Faccio slamming in the usual pass with a Whirlybird, Pete Rose, Front Mobe and massive Batwing. And 1st place went to……. Nick Davies! Who just had a ridiculous run, with hammers being a massive Front to Blind, Heelside Blind 5, a Bee-sting and a indy Tantrum to Blind.
After the prize giving was done a bunch of us made a dash for the local cable park Base 3 to get some riding in before I had to catch a flight that evening..
It was a sick weekend.. with some cool footage that should be posted shortly.
